Luang Prabang is a gem of a city and a must for those looking to see Laos in its true form. Its slow pace, friendly people, beautiful scenery and fantastic night markets make it an absolute pleasure to visit. In fact, Luang Prabang has a lot going for it: great restaurants and cafes, an ocean full of turtles and dolphins, a world-class National Museum, narrow but winding streets that lead up above the surrounding rice fields to tight jungle paths pierced.
Luang Prabang is one of the most stunning, authentic and pleasant places in Laos. It is also one of the few places in the country that are still relatively untouched by mass tourism or development. This means that it’s quite easy to find cheap accommodation, eat delicious food and drink cheap beer while still getting a true sense of what the country is like. Traveling on less than $15 per day is certainly possible if you stick to budget hostels, Couchsurfing and Couchsurfing clubbed together.
Accommodation in Luang Prabang can be quite expensive. We recommend budgeting at least $50 per night for a simple room with shared bathroom. The more luxurious the hotel, the more expensive it will be. If you are looking for something more luxurious, then expect to pay at least $100 per night. The most expensive accommodation in Laos is the Royal Palace or its grounds which cost up to $500 per night.
